Things to do at SCS!

Come experience the many groups and clubs that SCS has to offer to students that can get them more involved in the school and have fun at the same time.

Blue & White Society

The Blue & White Society is a group that focuses on the preparing and planning of the yearly prom. They are the ones, who sell tickets, set up decorations, decide the theme of prom, and who organize everything from music to food. This is one club that requires a lot of dedication and reliability to ensure that we have a great prom every year. The students who are involved with the Blue & White Society are the ones who have to make sure that senior students are kept updated on all plans pertaining to prom. The Blue & White Society is a great chance to get involved to create that one special night that everyone will remember for years to come. So, if you enjoy dances and you are a dedicated person with a lot of creative ideas then the Blue & White Society could be the right place for you to be.

Yearbook Committee

The SCS yearbook is traditionally known as the Monocle. Producing it is no small task. It's a bittersweet combination of fun and frustration but one that all yearbook staff are extremely proud of when completed. The Monocle is not only a reflection of the events in the SCS school year but a celebration of the activities our students and staff get involved in to make our community a great place to be. The committee's goal is to produce a yearbook that is creative, innovative, and more importantly, accurate and inclusive. It takes thousands of photos to create an amazing book of memories. Luckily, students love to see themselves and their friends in print so it's not too difficult to find beautiful smiles when the paparazzi are on the hunt for that perfect photo opportunity. So checkout the yearbook committee if you love creating memories for a lifetime.

Fair Committee

The Fair Committee is made up of a group of students who every year are responsible for everything that represents SCS at the Norfolk Fair. Every year the Fair Committee is in charge of finding out what the school theme for fair will be by coming up with possible themes and letting the students vote on the best one. They are also the students who run the pep rally and create all the decorations based on the school theme. This club requires dedicated students who are ready to put creativity and time into turning our school into the best represented school at the fair.

Economics Club

The Economics club is for those students who want to have their voices and opinions heard. The club expresses the ideals, views, and controversy surrounding world issues and topics of today. Students share many of their thoughts about the topic they are discussing within the meeting often debating with other members over what they believe is the right thought. This club is a great way to learn about the issues the world deals with everyday from the smallest of impacts to the largest affecting people. The club also is a great way to experience the world of politics for those interested in that sort of field for the future. So, if you enjoy learning about the world and having your thoughts expressed then check out the Economics club.

Breakfast Club

The Breakfast Club is a group of students and teachers who volunteer to come in early Monday - Thursday to prepare a free breakfast for students who are hungry when they arrive at school and did not have time to eat breakfast at home. The students in this club also make breakfast during special occasions. They provide a variety of hot and cold breakfasts for students. This is a club for those who really enjoy working with food and really enjoy breakfast. Another good quality with being part of the Breakfast Club is the hands-on experience the students receive when preparing a cold breakfast for cooking a hot breakfast in order to meet any student's request. The food they provide is of good quality and made to satisfy the hunger of any student.

Chess Club

The Chess Club is a place where any student who enjoys playing a game of chess can come in and have fun playing with friends and other students. This club is a good opportunity to meet new people or a good place to go if you just like a quiet place to be during lunch. The Chess Club is also a way to learn how to play the game since the students are always willing to help teach newcomers and there are tournaments to test the skills of the students against each other. The Chess Club is a great place to enhance one's way of thinking as it teaches students ways to plan out their moves and use strategy in order to win the game as well as showing them how to think on the go.

UNICEF Club

Each fall SCS participates in a UNICEF fundraiser we call the October Campaign. The UNICEF Club consists of student volunteers who publicize and run a contest among the homerooms (and sometimes with other schools) to see which one can raise the most money in the month of October. The Bridge and Pathways Programs help by counting and rolling the money collected. It is a huge effort, usually raising several thousand dollars for the work of UNICEF, and shows the dedication of the students of SCS to helping those in need around the world. This club requires those who are ready and willing to take responsibility, so, this club might just be for you if you share in the same goal to help those in need.
